Mediation Attorney Tee Persad, Esq.

Mr. Persad has worked in the legal profession for over 20 years. He is licensed to practice law in Florida, the United States Virgin Islands, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and before the U.S. Supreme Court. He earned his Juris Doctor and Masters degree in Public Administration degree from the University of Akron in 1993 and 1994, respectively. He also holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Business Administration from the University of the Virgin Islands, a diploma in paralegal studies from New York University, and certification from the Harvard Law School Program on Negotiation, Leadership, and Conflict Resolution.

Because Mr. Persad’s experience in the legal field includes representing individuals, businesses, and government entities in a Plaintiff and Defense posture, regarding complex personal, business, and regulatory issues. He brings this wealth of knowledge and experience to the mediation process. This knowledge and experience, coupled with his ability to understand and navigate the personal and organizational cultural issues of conflicting parties, helps him bridge the gap for parties mediating complex cases.

Mr. Persad is certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Circuit Civil Mediator and Family Law Mediator, and by the Superior Court of the US Virgin Islands to mediate all cases in the US Virgin Islands. He has mediated complex civil cases at the sate and federal level.  Having been certified as class counsel, he has the practical experience and knowledge to mediate class actions for state and national classes. Having mediated multimillion dollar disputes between fortune 500 companies and government agencies, he has the experience and knowledge to mediate complex regulatory issues. Having litigated and mediated complex commercial issues between large and medium sized businesses, he has the experience, knowledge, and temperament to mediate complex contract disputes, tort disputes, and disputes involving statutory claims and conflicts between businesses of any size. He also has experience mediating bankruptcy issues, bank issues, real estate issues, employment issues, and other general commercial disputes.

Mr. Persad also has a wealth of knowledge in Family Law, having clerked in the Family Court, then practiced family law for over 20 years, he has extensive experience helping people through the divorce process. In addition, his business knowledge and background gives him the added edge needed to help parties resolve complex business and other property distribution issues with divorce context.

Mr. Persad has lectured on the topic of cultural diversity in the mediation process at the Alternate Dispute Resolution Conference for the State of Florida. His understanding of the cultural issues affecting individuals of different  cultural communities and the prevalent cultural differences in organizations gives him an added insight into litigants’ motivations, biases, and decision making process. Armed with this understanding, Mr. Persad is uniquely able to help parties understand each other, overcome their biases, and effectively communicate with each other to resolve their differences.
